5300+ Acres of Outdoor Classroom

Considered one of the finest facilities of its type in the nation, the Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center (SDFEC) was born from the vision of Solon Dixon, a pioneer in forest management. Dixon envisioned a place where young people could be fully immersed in learning about forestry, wildlife, and natural resources management.

Today, the SDFEC functions as a living laboratory for hands-on, experiential learning for students, practitioners, and land owners. Each summer the facility is used for a 10-week practicum experience for students of the Auburn University School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, and often hosts other universities, nongovernmental agencies, and government personnel for immersive field training exercises.

For nature-based organizations and recreational groups, the SDFEC provide excellent opportunities to learn about and enjoy the native flora and fauna found in the Southeastern United States.
