HRD is optimizing performance development for employees

HR Development is taking proactive steps to revamp our performance management processes and systems.

Initiatives that occurred in 2023 include:

  • Establishing a Performance Management Working Group, comprising over 20 partners from various schools and units.

  • Conducting two campus wide surveys. Over 1,954 employees and 371 supervisors participated in the surveys - an impressive 49% engagement rate. The feedback that was provided was extremely valuable. For example, 97% of respondents stated that supervisors should be appraised on leadership, and 95% stated that both values and performance should be evaluated.

  • Renaming the process to demonstrate a partnership in performance and the responsibility for supervisors to develop their employees - “Performance Development Process.”

Based on the feedback that was provided along with senior leadership guidance, HRD did the following:

  • Established a design team to build a new performance review template and modify the annual performance development process for the 2024-25 performance year.

  • Introduced a streamlined "Align, Collaborate, Evaluate" performance development process focuses on building robust relationships between supervisors and employees.

  • Collaborated with OIT to pursue an internal vendor to build an automated process.

This robust effort not only streamlines processes but also enhances the overall employee experience, aligning our performance development practices seamlessly with the evolving needs of Auburn University.
