1,300 employees receive market adjustments

Last year, Auburn University completed a multi-year Compensation Market Study to enhance competitive pay for Staff and Administrative & Professional (A&P) employees.

Most jobs on campus were already competitive with the external market. However, there were some gaps for other jobs based on the dynamic aspects of the market.

Compensation and Classification worked with over 100 stakeholders (campus leadership, HR Liaisons, and other representatives from units across campus) to address these gaps through the study.

Market Study Highlights

  • Phase 1 implementation began on Sept. 1, 2022, with the publication of new pay structures for 23 occupational job families.

  • On Oct. 1, 2022, Auburn implemented new pay structures for Staff and A&P employees. Preliminary market adjustments were also approved for approximately 1,300 employees whose salaries were not at a competitive market level. The approved market adjustments narrowed, but did not eliminate, the market gaps for these employees.

  • In 2023, Compensation and Classification gathered information from over 3,000 employees (education, experience, certifications and licensures, and other recognitions and credentials.) This information was used to appropriately place employees in the salary range based on the Pay Evaluator.

  • On Oct. 1, 2023, over 1,300 employees receive Phase 2 market adjustments, ensuring that they would be paid a market competitive salary for the valuable work they perform at Auburn.

Compensation has started to build JDXpert, a new online tool that will be used for reclassifications and job descriptions. JDXpert will be used for A&P and Staff positions. In the next few months, we expect to introduce JDXpert to campus.
