Dr. Overtoun Jenda was elected as one of the 2024 Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, "one of the world’s largest general scientific societies and publisher of the Science family of journals." Dr. Jenda joins "a distinguished cadre recognized for their achievements across disciplines, from research, teaching and technology to administration in academia, industry and government to excellence in communicating and interpreting science to the public."

On March 14, 2025, our request to implement the new Doctor of Philosophy in Statistics and Data Science (CIP 30.7001) was granted by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education. As many of you know, this has been in development for some time and was a key recommendation from our 2020 Academic Program Review. Its approval marks a significant step forward for our department.Congratulations to everyone who helped make this a reality.

Oeding secures a grant from the Air Force Research Laboratory

Dr. Luke Oeding has secured a $136k grant from the Air Force Research Laboratory for his project, "PolyNav: Solving Polynomial Systems Modeling Collaborative Vehicle Navigation." This award stems from his work during the Summer Faculty Fellowship Program in 2024 and will support the project over the next 15 months. Dr. Oeding will utilize his expertise in algebraic geometry to develop advanced computational methods for collaborative vehicle navigation.

Kuehr and Hamilton selected to receive the Andrew C. Connor Memorial Award for the 2024-25
