Clinical Laboratory Sciences
The Clinical Laboratory Science program is housed in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. This program is designed to prepare students for careers in both clinical and non-clinical laboratory fields, including diagnostics, public health, forensics, research, and environmental testing. It can also be used for admission into graduate or professional programs. If you would like more information on the career options and overall profession, refer to the Profession Information tab. You can also follow us on social media via our Instagram page @aulabscience and Facebook page facebook.com/aulabscience. There are 2 major routes with the Clinical Laboratory Science program.
Laboratory Science
Prepares students to work in a non-diagnostic setting with senior year consisting of on-campus courses including Biochemistry lab, Analytical Chemistry, and Technical Electives aligned to their career interests. These Technical Electives can be aligned to fulfill pre-requisites for graduate or professional programs. Two concentrations, Pre-Medicine and Pre- Physician Assistant, are available within this major. Refer to the Curriculum Models tab for more details.
Medical Laboratory Science
Prepares students to work in diagnostic settings where they will be analyzing body fluid specimens to provide accurate results for medical decisions to be made. They are trained in many areas including microbiology, transfusion medicine, hematology, coagulation, chemistry, and toxicology. Senior year requires completion of a National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited internship. Refer to the Internship Information tab for more details
