Outreach Programs
Below is an alphabetical list of the programs currently offered by the STEM Outreach Office for kindergarten through high school students, teachers and the community. Please click on the program titles for more information.

Alabama Science and Engineering Fair (ASEF)
ASEF hosts middle and high school regional fair winners from across Alabama. Several students from ASEF advance to the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the premier science competition in the world. ISEF provides a forum for millions of students from over 50 countries, regions and territories to showcase their independent research and compete for nearly $4 million in prizes and scholarships.

Auburn Mathematical Puzzle Challenge (AMP'd)
The Middle School AMP’d challenge is held each fall. The event is a problem solving challenge in which teams of six to eight middle school students work together to 'complete their mission' by solving mathematical puzzles. The focus of Middle School AMP’d is to engage in math in a way that is fun, interesting and different from a traditional math class.
AP Institute
AP Institute is the official training program developed by The College Board. The STEM Outreach Office, in collaboration with the Office of Professional and Continuing Education at Auburn University, hosts science and mathematics courses for area high school teachers each summer. Course offerings vary annually, but generally include professional development in biology, chemistry, physics and statistics. Registration for these programs occurs through the Office of Professional and Continuing Education.
COSAM Campfires
COSAM Campfires is a family focused evening of hands-on science. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket and chairs and enjoy time outside learning about a specific scientific topic from an expert.
Destination STEM
Destination STEM is an interactive experience and open house where sixth through ninth grade students are invited to Auburn University to explore opportunities in the sciences and mathematics. Auburn University faculty and staff highlight their fields of study giving students a chance to learn about the Auburn University campus, programs and the incredible opportunities offered through the College of Science and Mathematics and Samuel Ginn College of Engineering.

EmpowHER
EmpowHER is a mini-conference for 8 th – 11 th grade girls interested in pursuing STEM majors and/or careers. This event is held in conjunction with the International Day for Women and Girls in Science. Students hear from women about their careers, research and the opportunities in STEM through breakout sessions, table exhibits and panel discussions.
GEARSEF
GEARSEF hosts middle and high school students from 19 counties in Central and Southeast Alabama. The top students in each category and division earn the chance to compete at the Alabama State Science and Engineering Fair (ASEF). Several exceptional high school students from GEARSEF advance to the premier science competition in the world, the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in May and compete against the top 1500 students in the world for nearly $4 million in prizes and scholarships.
Getting Under the Surface (G.U.T.S.)
G.U.T.S. is an evening program for 1 st-6 th grade students and their guardians. Each evening session includes a 90-minute science activity featuring a “Getting Under the Surface” theme designed to demystify the science of topics ranging from DNA to creatures in the deep sea to how batteries work. The mission of GUTS is to enhance science literacy and engagement within our community by providing relevant science activities.
Mathematical Puzzle Program (MaPP)
The High School MaPP program is held each spring. The event is based on a national puzzle program that promotes active teamwork and collaboration over individual, seated problem solving. Puzzles involve solving real world mathematical issues based on current research.
Science Matters
Science Matters is a summer enrichment camp for elementary students in 1 st - 6 th grades that offers a supercharged science experience. Campers explore science through experiments, enrichment activities, technology and art projects and hands-on activities. Each summer, Science Matters offers multiple science-themed weeks of programming. Camps are designed and taught by exceptional elementary and secondary teachers trained in inquiry-based, student-centered learning approaches of instruction.

Science Olympiad (Elementary)
Science Olympiad is a one-day sports-like science competition involving approximately 2,000 students. Offered each spring semester, Elementary School Science Olympiad is open to 20 teams consisting of 25 students in grades three to six.

Science Olympiad is a one-day sports-like science competition involving approximately 2,000 students. Auburn hosts the Alabama State Competition for middle and high school teams each spring.

Science Pub/Cafe
Join us for a night of science, good drinks, tasty sweets, and great conversation! Talk about new and exciting science and technology with scientists in our community, all while relaxing in a great local food and drink venue.

SSI (Summer Science Institute)
This summer science program for outstanding 11 th – 12 th grade students interested in science and mathematics is open to students residing in Alabama or Georgia. The week long, residential program partners students with experienced Auburn University science and math research faculty to explore topics more advanced than typical high school science.
