Invest in Your Health
A High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) is a health insurance option with lower monthly premiums but higher out-of-pocket costs. Unlike traditional plans with copays and lower deductibles, you’ll pay more upfront for care until you meet your deductible. After that, the plan helps cover eligible expenses.
Key Things to Know
-
Auburn’s HDHP is managed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama (BCBS)—just like the PPO plan.
-
You can use the same BCBS network whether you're in Alabama or traveling.
-
The HDHP can be paired with a Health Savings Account (HSA), which lets you save pre-tax money to help pay for medical costs.
-
Preventive care may be covered at no cost, even before you meet your deductible.

| Benefit | Details |
|---|---|
| Preventive Care | Plan pays 100%. |
| Deductible | Single: $2,500/Family: $5,000 |
| Coinsurance | Plan pays 80% after deductible, then 100% |
| Out-of-Pocket Maximum* | Single: $5,000/Family: $10,000 |
* After you reach the out-of-pocket maximum, the plan pays 100% of covered costs for the rest of the year.
2026 Premium Rates
HDHP premiums are lower than PPO premiums, but you must meet the deductible before benefits are paid (except for preventive care).
| Coverage Tier | Biweekly | Monthly | 18-Pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Employee Only | $52.46 | $113.66 | $75.78 |
| Employee + Spouse | $146.89 | $318.26 | $212.17 |
| Employee + Child(ren) | $99.68 | $215.96 | $143.98 |
| Family | $157.38 | $341.00 | $227.33 |
Premiums are deducted before taxes, which lowers your taxable income.
