The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Healthcare Reform, has established a national Health Insurance Marketplace. The purpose of the Marketplace is to enable everyone the opportunity to purchase individual affordable health insurance coverage, even if health insurance coverage is not available to you through your employer.

Healthcare Reform requires that you and your family have health insurance coverage each year beginning in 2014 or you will have to pay a penalty when you file your taxes.

If you are an active full-time non-student employee, and your most recent appointment period is continuous for a minimum of one year (nine or twelve months as appropriate to the appointment), then you and your family are eligible for the Auburn University Health Plan. You will have an opportunity to enroll in the Health Plan during Open Enrollment in November of each year for coverage in the following calendar year. If you and your family are already enrolled in the Health Plan, then you just need to be aware that the Health Insurance Marketplace is an option for you.

If you are not eligible for the Auburn University Health Plan, and do not have access to any other health insurance coverage, then the Health Insurance Marketplace Coverage Options will explain to you how to enroll for health care coverage through the national program.

The Health Insurance Marketplace is open to everyone. If you are eligible for the Auburn University Health Plan, you may still choose to purchase coverage through the Marketplace.

If you intend to apply for coverage through the Marketplace, the Health Insurance Marketplace Coverage Options will be helpful to you.
