Kyle Heine
Graduate
Award

Kyle Heine

Department of Biological Sciences

Wendy Hood
“Kyle is highly motivated; he is a self-starter and perhaps the strongest graduate student I have had in my lab. He has done an excellent job developing new methods, and the projects that he has developed are largely his own. He has high standards for himself and aims to publish his research in top journals. Kyle has the confidence, commitment, and smarts to make that happen. I am confident that he will have a successful and productive research career.”

Jiaming Lu

Award

Jiaming Liu

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Ming Chen
“Jiaming is currently a third-year graduate student in the division of organic chemistry at Auburn. Her passion and drive for scientific discovery have made it a joy to guide her research path thus far and have been instrumental in getting my research group off to a good start. Jiaming obtained her bachelor and master degrees in chemistry from Yangzhou University, China. During her tenure at Yangzhou University, she studied on reaction development of poly-substituted cyclopropane derivatives in the laboratory of Professor Cunde Wang. Her studies in Professor Wang’s lab resulted in four publications in internationally reputable journals ( J. Org. Chem., Eur. J. Org. Chem., etc). Jiaming is the first author in all four publications, which is an exceptional achievement for a master’s level student.”

Shuwen Xue
Graduate
Award

Shuwen Xue

Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Wenxian Shen
“Shuwen is one of the best graduate students in our department. She has been investigating the population dynamics under the in fluence of chemotaxis and/or climate changes. Her research record is excellent: two papers appeared, one in Journal of Mathematical Biology and one in Journal of Differential Equations, which are two top ranked journals in the area of differential equations and dynamical systems; one paper accepted by Journal of Dynamics and Differential Equations, another top ranked journal in the area; and one paper submitted to Journal of Mathematical Biology. She made major contributions to these papers. I am very impressed by Shuwen's research ability and achievements.”

Nathan Holden
Undergraduate
Award

Nathan Holden

Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Junshan Lin
“Nathan has been working with me on applied mathematical research for more than one year. He’s a top-notch senior student in the department with extraordinary academic achievement and very strong research capability. He is the very first undergraduate student at Auburn who impresses me a lot with his research talent, his independence, and his curiosity in exploring new areas in applied mathematics.”

Natalie Williams
Undergraduate
Award

Natalie Williams

Department of Biological Sciences

Mark Liles
“There is no question in my mind that Natalie Williams is highly deserving of this award. I have known Natalie for the past 3 years as her research mentor and as her instructor for 2 upper level microbiology classes. Unlike other students, Natalie actually contacted me prior to enrolling as a first-year student, as it was important to her to be able to gain direct experience in microbiology as an undergraduate. I have never before been interviewed by an incoming freshman student! This exceptional drive to learn and gain experience is what really sets Natalie apart from other students, and it was her innate curiosity about science that encouraged me to have her join my lab. She has been a superlative student and researcher in my lab, far exceeding my normal expectations for an undergraduate student. Natalie shows enormous promise as a scientist, both from her superlative academic record and her inquisitive intellect.”
