Human Resources (HR) has revised the development requirements for all administrative positions at Auburn University.

This change is intended to give supervisors and administrative employees additional flexibility in creating a development plan to ensure the requirements are appropriate for the employee and their respective duties and responsibilities.  Administrative employees, supervisors, and campus leadership all provided feedback on how to improve this process.

How Will These Changes Benefit Employees?

Previously, HR provided a defined curriculum model for every job level in each of the administrative position job families. Administrative employees were required to complete this curriculum for job family promotion eligibility. However, due to variances among administrative roles across campus, aspects of the curriculum model often did not fit into an employee's job duties and responsibilities.

Moving forward, supervisors and administrative employees can work together to design a development plan that will best fit the employee’s development needs in relation to their current duties, responsibilities, performance review, and aspirations (see below). Plan details can be included on the Performance Review Form

The process of creating an administrative employee’s development plan for the next performance year should occur during the individual’s performance review. This will help ensure that both the supervisor and employee are involved in creating the development plan and that the employee’s performance review ratings are taken into consideration.

These changes have given our administrative employees the freedom and flexibility needed to focus their development on the training courses that are most beneficial to them as individuals, to their departments, and to the University. Please send any questions or concerns regarding these new changes and processes to hrddept@auburn.edu.
