“As we celebrate Earth Day, we are highlighting the importance of geology and geography for supporting our planet Earth and environmental protection,” said Ming-Kuo Lee, chair of the Department of Geosciences on the Campus Green during the 2024 Earth Day Extravaganza hosted by the University Program Council. “We can use our knowledge in geoscience to make the planet a better place to live, in a sustainable way.”

      DMS congratulates Drs. Overtoun Jenda and Peter Johnson on the renewal of their NSF REU Site Research Experiences for Undergraduates in Algebra and Discrete Mathematics at Auburn University. This grant of ~$288K will support the REU program from 2024 to 2027, continuing a project that started in 1999. This REU program has been a key factor in attracting talented PhD students to our department. Keep an eye out for Pete's emails inviting you to participate in this year's activities.   Congrats Drs. STEM Outreach hosts State Science Olympiad

The STEM Outreach Office in the College of Sciences and Mathematics hosted the State Science Olympiad tournament on Saturday, March 23. The competition brought the top 24 middle and high school teams in the state to compete in a sports-like STEM environment.
