Microsoft Windows

 

  1. Determine what Windows version you have  (Instructions)
  2. Join the Auburn domain.
    1. Windows 2000: Right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Network Identification tab.  Then click "Properties" on the Network Identification tab.  Under "Member Of", select "Domain" and enter "auburn.edu" into the text field.  Then Click Ok.
    2. Windows XP: Start, right-click My Computer, choose Properties, click the Computer Name tab and click the "Change..." button.   Under "Member Of", select "Domain" and enter "auburn.edu" into the text field.  Then Click Ok.
    3. Windows Vista:
      1. Click Start, right-click Computer, choose System Properties.

      2. Click "Change Settings" by the shield icon.  You will get a User Access Control prompt asking if you want to continue.  Click "Continue" in this message.
      3. In the System Properties window that appears, go to the "Computer Name" tab and click the "Change..." button.
      4. Under "Member Of", select the "Domain" radio button and enter "auburn.edu" into the text field.  Then Click Ok.
    4. You will be asked for your username and password.  Enter "auburn\USERNAME", where USERNAME is you AU UserID, for the username.  Enter your password in the password field.  Then click "Ok".
    5. You will be prompted to reboot your computer.  You must do so before you can finish joining the domain.  Shut down any open applications, save any open files, and reboot your computer.
    6. After you join the domain, you will see the following box each time you boot your computer:


    1. To login as you did before, enter your username and password for your computer in the appropriate boxes.  In the "Log on to" box, select "XXXX (this computer)", where XXXX is the name of your computer from above.
    2. COSAM IT would prefer that you begin to log in with your AU ID and password once you are joined to the domain.  COSAM IT staff can work with you to facilitate this changeover, which should take 30 minutes to 1 hour.  The end result will be that you enter your Auburn ID and password for your username and password.  Your Auburn ID is the same as that which is used to log into TigerMail and classroom computers around campus. To begin using your AU UserID account, e-mail cosamithelp@auburn.edu to schedule a time for someone to assist you.
