Details: Speaker: Nedret Billor Title : Introduction to Functional Data Analysis
Abstract: Due to rapid technological developments, we handle increasingly large and complex datasets, and further, monitoring devices are becoming even more sophisticated to produce statistical units sampled over finer and finer grids which result in massive continuous data. The generated data through these new technologies are called functional data. I will give an introduction to functional data analysis, explain what statistical problems are studied in this field, and talk about a few research problems that I am interested in.
