Students plannin a Physics major should consult with the pre-health advisor.

1 The Chemistry 1110/111-1120/1121 sequence can substitute for CHEM 1030/1031-1040/1041.

2 Students who have AP or transfer credit for US History should talk to an advisor about CORE SOC SCI choices.

3 Students planning a major in Biomedical Sciences should take CHEM 2080/81 as their professional elective in their sophomore or junior year (see below)

SCIENCES AND MATHEMATICS PRE-PHYSICAL THERAPY & PRE-PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT MAJOR REQUIREMENTS

BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES: BMSC

  • Must complete:
    • BCHE 5180 (3 hours)
    • BCHE 5190 (3 hours)
    • BIOL 5500 (3 hours)
    • BIOL 5600 (5 hours)
    • CHEM 2080 (3 hours)
    • CHEM 2081 (1 hour)
  • Must complete 8 hours  of BMSC Major Electives from the following:
    • any 3000+ level in BIOL, CHEM or PHYS
    • PHYS 1510* (PPHS students should complete PHYS 1510 as 4 hours of their BMSC Major Electives)
    • SCMH 3810
    • SCMH 3890
    • SCMH 5940 (pre-health related study abroad section)
  • Must complete 3 hours of Professional Elective from the following:
    • Medical Terminology
    • Foreign Language
    • Any additional 3000+ level BIOL, CHEM or PHYS course
*Note: no more than 6 credit hours total of Undergraduate Research (4980) will be counted towards any degree.

MICROBIOLOGY: MCMB

  • Must complete BIOL 5200 (5 hours), 5220 (3 hours), 5230 (3 hours) and 5500 (3 hours).
  • Must complete 15 hours chosen from the following: BIOL 4100/4101, 4103/4101, 4150, 4920, 4980 (maximum of 6 hours), 5110, 5190, 5210, 5250, 5270, 5330, 5340, 5501, 5521, 5600, 5660, 5700, 5800, 5850, 5860, SCMH 5940 (pre-health topic), PHYS 1510.

PHYSICS: PHYS

  • Must complete MATH 1620 (in place of STAT 2510), 2630 and 2650.
  • Must complete PHYS 1607 and 1617 (in place of PHYS 1500 and 1510), PHYS 2200, 2100, 2300, 3100, 3200, and 3500.

ORGANISMAL BIOLOGY

  • Must complete BIOL 5600 (5 hours)
  • Must complete 12 hours chosen from the following: BIOL 3030 or 3033, 3060, 4010, 4020.
  • Must complete 8 hours chosen from the following: BIOL 3010 or 3013, 3011, 3100, 4000 or 4003, 4001 or 4033, 4100, 4101, 5110.
  • Must complete 4 hours from the following:
    • Any additional course from lists above
    • BIOL 4920, 4980, 5800, 5850, 5860, SCMH 5940 (pre-health topic), PHYS 1510

*Note: no more than 6 credit hours total of Undergraduate Research (4890) will be counted towards any degree.
