Discipline-Based Education Research (DBER)

Improving teaching and learning in STEM.

What is DBER?

Discipline-Based Education Research (DBER) is a research field dedicated to the development of evidence-based knowledge, practices, and assessments that improve teaching and learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Here at Auburn, our expanding DBER community currently represents researchers at the intersection of biology, chemistry, and geoscience disciplines and educational research. An important feature of DBER is the strong role that the STEM disciplines play in setting research priorities, and ensuring research is relevant to and focused on improving undergraduates' expertise and learning experiences in these disciplines.
