Please submit an entire application packet )(except for the faculty reference form) as an email attachment in a single PDF or WORD 2003 file to the Committee Chair: Lorraine W. Wolf, Department of Geology and Geography wolflor@auburn.edu.

This Committee will use the following guidelines:

  1. Funds will be used to support travel by COSAM graduate students to meetings in which they present thesis or dissertation research.  Students must be registered and on campus during the semester they travel.
  2. Travel must fall within the travel period specified above for each review cycle. The Committee requires time to process and evaluate the applications so students planning travel close to the review period may not have our decision until their return.
  3. Typically, each awardee receives $250 towards allowable expenses.  However, the amount per award may vary, depending on the funds available, the number of applicants, and the reason for travel.  Preference will be given to first-time applicants, although others will be considered.
  4. Preference will be given to those who will be making an oral presentation or poster as senior author of their thesis or dissertation, rather than simply attending a meeting or presenting non-degree research.  Should students not be first authors on papers, some explanation why this is so should be given in their justification.
  5. Attempts to secure funds from additional sources are encouraged (e.g., Graduate School, department funds, etc.).  Prior awards from the COSAM student travel committee should be noted on the application form.
  6. Complete applications are a prerequisite for full consideration.
  7. Other factors used in ranking the students include the following:
    • Quality of research presented
    • Quality of student and advisor justification
    • Past achievements as indicated in the student vita
    • Rank of the meeting within the student's discipline
    • Estimated graduation date
    • Justification for support
