Halanych Invited to be Keynote Speaker at International Conference
Kenneth M. Halanych, associate professor in the department of biological sciences, has been invited to be a keynote speaker at the Computational Phylogenetics and Molecular Systematics international conference in Moscow, Russia. In his speech, “Animal Phylogeny: New Insights from Molecular Data,” Halanych will discuss recent advances in the evolutionary relationships of animals. Additionally, Halanych has been asked to share his Antarctic research at a biology seminar.
“It is an honor to have been invited to such a meeting,” Halanych, said. “It draws largely on Russian researchers, and I am only one of about six or seven foreign nationals invited to speak at the conference.”
The conference, which takes place from Nov. 16 to 19, has been organized by the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University (MSU), Belozersky Institute for Physicochemical Biology of MSU, Faculty of Bioengineering and Bioinformatics of MSU, and Kharkevich Institute for Information Transmission Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The conference will commemorate the first experimental study on molecular systematics, published in Russia 50 years ago.
