Twenty-two members of our chapter enjoyed a special “behind the scenes” exploration of the Birmingham Zoo. Participants were able to go into the back area of the Predator building to speak with the keepers and see them working with some of the animals (the lions were great!). SCB members also toured the new Trails of Africa Exhibit (not yet opened to the public) and spoke to the keepers there, as well as the Alabama Wilds Exhibit. Members had the chance to see up-close some of the animals used in the Zoo’s education program, including one of only four Vasa Parrots present in the U.S. Participants also had some free time for exploring other exhibits in smaller groups. All in all, it was a fantastic trip!
