Society for Conservation Biology visits Alabama Aquatic Biodiversity Center

Six members of our chapter enjoyed a special "behind the scenes" exploration of the Alabama Aquatic Biodiversity Center. Participants were met by the Director, Dr. Paul Johnson, on a rainy Saturday morning. A short Powerpoint presentation provided an overview of Alabama’s freshwater diversity, threats to it, and the history of the Center, and was followed by an in-depth tour of the facilities. Students were able to view culture facilities for endangered mussels and snails and there were plenty of opportunities to ask questions and learn about Alabama's unique freshwater fauna.
