Title: Derived categories in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry

Abstract: The derived category is a central notion in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, and it plays a prominent role in my research. I will give an introduction to what the derived category is and why it's useful, and I'll discuss two projects on which I'm currently working that involve derived category techniques.
