Admission into Graduate Program:
Application Process

Minimum Admissions Requirements

All Applicants

  • Bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.

  • One official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate credits from each school previously attended (except those earned at Auburn University).

  • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) General Test scores. Auburn University's ETS institution code is 1005.

International Applicants

  • Auburn does require Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to be taken. Auburn University's ETS institution code is 1005. Successful international applicants must score at least
    • 550 on the paper version (pBT),
    • 213 on the computer version (cBT), and
    • 79 on the internet version (iBT), minimums of 16 on the listening, reading, speaking, and writing components.

  • Auburn will also accept a 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam.
  • If accepted into a graduate program, must demonstrate full financial sponsorship, established by proof of a comprehensive medical insurance plan and submission of Official Statement of Finances. Remark: If admitted into one of our programs with GTA support, the support automatically meets the requirement (and the I20 form is).

  • Application fees: $50 for domestic applicants, $60 for international applicants:
    Send check or money order (US dollars only) payable to
      Graduate School of Auburn University.

    (Until fees are received, no application will be forwarded to the Department and therefore, no decisions will be made concerning admission and/or assistantships.)
  • One official copy of all transcripts (except from Auburn University).

  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • A completed teaching assistant application form (available here) to be considered for a Teaching Assistant. Remark: A minimum score of 50 on the Test of Spoken English (TSE) is required to be eligible to teach in a classroom. Within a year of arriving at Auburn, the applicant must pass the TSE or successfully complete the course Classroom Communication Skills with a good grade.
  • A Curriculum Vitae.

  • A brief description of upper-level or graduate-level mathematics courses which you have taken.
