Teacher Information

Teachers may contact us at 334-844-5770 or arbinfo@auburn.edu with questions regarding tours for school groups.  We ask that you call at least a month ahead of time to ensure that we will be able to accommodate your needs.  Tours run from 30 to 90 minutes or more depending on what the class desires.  It should be noted that a full hour is required to walk the full length of the collection.  We can focus on a variety topics dealing with the native plant collections within the Arboretum.  Thanks to our connections within the university we can also coordinate with teachers to address most any classroom topic that falls under the umbrella of the College of Sciences and Mathematics.  Please let us know your area of interest when scheduling your tour.

On a typical tour, students will learn what an arboretum is and will discuss issues of conservation and ecology while learning about the historical uses of many native plants. The walk starts at the pavilion and takes the group through our native habitats and plant collections.

We have 4 (30"x72") tables and 40 chairs, as well as built -in seating for dozens more if you would like for your group to bring lunch and eat before leaving.  Note that we have recycling bins available for disposal of normal recyclables.  You may consider taking the group to Auburn University's Jules Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art for its tour showcasing the Audubon collection, since the paintings of the birds also include plants that are closely associated with food or shelter.  Many of those same plants can be seen at the Arboretum.

The Donald E. Davis Arboretum is funded and managed by the College of Sciences and Mathematics.
