Applying to Graduate School for Physics

Instructions for applying to Graduate School for Physics

For Domestic Students

  • Complete the Physics Department Application Form for financial assistance.  No application fee is required.
  • Take the GRE and ask the ETS to send the official scores to the Graduate School, Hargis Hall, Auburn University, AL 36849-5122, USA. (ETS Institution Code: 1005; ETS Department Code: 5199 for GRE) If you have already taken the GRE, you can wait for the results from step 2 before requesting the official scores. The physics subject test is not required.
  • Send a complete application packet to the Physics Department including the following items
    • Photocopies of the GRE Scores and the official transcripts from all the colleges you attended
    • Three recommendation letters in sealed envelopes
    • A Letter from you including your name, address with phone number and email address, academic background, possible research areas and the objective of your graduate study and any other information you would like us to know.
  • The packet should be sent to the following address:

For International Students

  • Complete the Physics Department Application Form for financial assistance.  No application fee is required.
  • Take the GRE and TOEFL (for International students whose native language is not English) and ask the ETS to send the official scores to the Graduate School, Hargis Hall, Auburn University, AL 36849-5122, USA. (ETS Institution Code: 1005; ETS Department Code: 5199 for GRE and 99 for TOEFL.) If you have already taken these tests, you can wait for the results from step 2 before requesting these official scores.  The physics subject test is not required.
  • Send a complete application packet to the Physics Department including the following items
    • Photocopies of the TOEFL and GRE Scores and the official transcripts from all the colleges you attended
    • Three recommendation letters in sealed envelopes
    • A Letter from you including your name, address with phone number and email address, academic background, possible research areas and the objective of your graduate study and any other information you would like us to know.
