The Doctor of Philosophy in Statistics is offered jointly with the Mathematics program in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The successful passing of general examination covering the major and minor fields and the preparation of an acceptable dissertation reflecting high achievement in scholarship and independent investigation and passing of a final examination on the dissertation and related objects. We expect all graduates to make a presentation of their original results in professional setting and, within two years, to have published their results in a professional journal.
The Doctor of Philosophy is a research degree. The goal of the program is to develop in students the ability to think and work independently, vigorously, and creatively in Statistics. Graduates are prepared for employment in colleges and universities, government or industrial research labs as well as information and computer-related industries.
