David Walker – 2022 Outstanding Junior (Mathematics and Statistics)

Davy is a junior pursuing a double major in Applied Discrete Mathematics and Computer Science in the Data Science ABM program. He has maintained a 3.96 GPA, and has been named a Presidential Scholar, a National Merit Scholar, the C. Lloyd and Sandy R. Nix Endowed Scholar, and the John W. and Rosemary K. Brown Scholar. Davy has been named to the Dean's List each semester at Auburn and has previously been named an Outstanding Freshman and Sophomore.

In 2021, Davy found a mentor in Jingyi (Ginny) Zheng of the Statistics department, who has helped sponsor and guide him through his personal research. Davy’s current research involves determining student-athlete college selections through machine learning and web scraping.

Davy has been active in various professional organizations on campus, including the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, the Artificial Intelligence and Ethical Hacking Clubs of the Association for Computing Machinery, the Sports Analytics Club, the Data Science Club, the Mathematics Club and Auburn's Honors College.

Davy is currently the assistant director and day coordinator for the Spark Service Leadership Program. He has previously served as the on-campus outreach lead and outreach chair for the Auburn Wesley Foundation and as the membership director for the College Democrats at Auburn University.

In his free time, Davy is an active member of the Auburn Tabletop Club. Outside of school, his main hobbies involve yoga, working out, and reading, as well as cheering for Auburn basketball with his friends.

In the future, Davy would like to gain valuable skills as an intern at a laboratory. He is interested in pursuing a career as a data scientist working with math, statistics and computer science for a corporation.
