COSAM's Statement on the Rise in Hate Crimes Against the Asian American and Pacific Islander Community

Since the pandemic began, there have been more than 3,800 documented hate crimes perpetuated against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. The inflammatory and xenophobic rhetoric related to COVID-19 is rooted in racism and hate, and has placed the AAPI community at risk, leading to increased rates of bullying, harassment, and the tragic murders we witnessed in Atlanta this week.

The increasing violence against the AAPI community is a reminder of the systemic inequities that marginalized communities face in our society and call for us to advocate, support, and actively oppose bigotry wherever it is found. COSAM condemns racism, hate, and discrimination in all forms and stands in solidarity with the AAPI community.

COSAM is currently working on creating a brave space to discuss these issues. In the meantime, if there is anything we can to support you, please let us know.
