February 7 is e Day for Euler’s number
“Euler’s number, denoted by the letter e, is an important math constant,” explained Dean Hoffman from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
The irrational number is found throughout advanced mathematics and calculus. It is associated with exponential functions.
February 7 is also 2/7 and e = 2.718…
“There’s also Euler’s constant, typically denoted by the Greek letter gamma, having to do with approximations to the harmonic numbers,” added Hoffman.
