Dr. Stuart Loch, professor in the Department of Physics in the College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM), is the recipient of a 2019-2020 alumni professorship.

Dr. Loch was excited to receive this five-year designation, which is based on research, service, and teaching. During the application process, he contacted colleagues for teaching evaluations, research collaborators, and feedback from former students.

“This award provides me with a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the impact I have made at COSAM,” he explained. “Contacting students, now proud alumni, which worked on previous research projects, gave me the ability to see how I helped them become scientists and have successful careers.”

Dr. Loch joined COSAM in 2002 as a postdoctoral researcher and became a faculty member in 2006. He enjoys teaching and believes that the collaborative spirit in the Department of Physics provides a positive and unique opportunity to learn from others and become a better professor each year.

“Former students that remembered my class after all of these years remind me that as a professor and researcher, we truly make a difference, and we leave a lasting legacy at Auburn University and beyond,” he added.

This honor is selected through Auburn University’s Alumni Professor Selection Committee and is approved by President Jay Gogue.
