The Office of Student Services in the College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM) kicked off the start of spring semester last Thursday by offering snacks, COSAM goodies and information to students.

The department hosts a similar event in the fall, but COSAM Academic Advisor Meredith Jones had the recent idea to do so in the spring as well.

“We wanted to give incoming students, who are new transfers or new freshman, an opportunity to stop by our office, find out where we are, grab a snack and get some COSAM swag,” Meredith said.

Along with snacks and drinks, the department offered COSAM koozies, pencils, pre-health and tutoring information and also a script to help students speak proficiently with their professors.

“A lot of students are intimidated by going to talk to their professor, so it’s a script that you can go through and fill in the blanks,” Meredith said.

COSAM student Eniqua Jenkins, who is currently a Chemistry student, grabbed a few snacks while gathering some useful information.

“It was very informative because I want to change my major,” Eniqua said. “I’m a chemistry major, but I want to go to pharmacy school, so the chemistry for me to graduate isn’t what I need to get into pharmacy school. So, I wanted to find out what route I actually need to be taking. They gave me some information that really helped.”
