Revise a Degree Program

Overview

Content revisions to a degree program (e.g., a change in curriculum model, new course requirements) are reviewed internally and typically take 2-3 months to be approved. The exception is a substantial change (e.g., a sizable increase or decrease in credit hours) that requires approval or review by the Board of Trustees, the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE), and possibly SACSCOC.

Before you Begin

Confirm that your revisions maintain the university’s standards for undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Process Details

To revise a program the originating academic unit should:

  1. Submit for Approval in CIM

Input the program revision into the Curriculum Inventory Management System (CIM) for review and approval by appropriate unit, college and university committees. A CIM training guide is available for assistance. If multiple changes are made in a single proposal, please include a clear summary of changes in the “Justification” section in CIM.

University committees (graduate and undergraduate) meet once a month andusually review all proposals received by the first of that month. The undergraduate committee does not meet in the summer months.

If the change is flagged as substantial by the Provost according to SACSCOC guidelines, the ACHE Coordinator will reach out to the College/School to discuss next steps.

Process Completion

The revised program will appear in the next Bulletin if all approvals occur prior to May 1st. Questions about process completion should be sent to bulletin@auburn.edu.
