The Department of Geosciences is committed to promoting a diverse, inclusive, and equitable university community where we can learn and thrive without fear of discrimination based on age, race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnic background, nationality, economic status, religion, and/or disability. We believe acceptance and inclusion of diverse students and faculty is integral to the success and well-being of our students and to achieving overall academic excellence within our discipline.

Acknowledging the complex history and traditional absence of inclusion, diversity, and equity within our discipline and society at large, we endeavor to create a safe, accessible, and adaptable learning and working environments. We recognize this is an ongoing process and we are dedicated to supporting the changing needs of our community.

1) Increase the representation of minoritized persons in the Geosciences.

2) Develop collaborative relationships with local HBCUs and MSUs to broaden participation in Geosciences and create pathways to our graduate program.

3) Establish accountability structure in the department for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity issues.

4) Address and incorporate environmental justice in department-led campus events and across curricula in graduate and undergraduate level courses.

5) Require Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity statements for every job applicant in the department.
