Ceremony times and specific college/school breakdowns for each ceremony will be posted approximately six months before commencement.

Day of Ceremony Tips

AU Parking App

We would like to encourage those that plan to attend any of the ceremonies to download the space availability app, AU Parking. The AU Parking app provides you with real time information regarding the number of available spaces and their location in certain lots. It will also help cut down on the time it takes to find an available parking space on graduation day.


Entry into the Auburn Arena
  • All graduates (except doctoral students) enter through designated doors at the north end.
  • Doctoral Degree Candidates:
    • Arrive no later than one hour before your ceremony.
    • Enter at the Scholarship Entrance next to the Arena parking lot. Family and friends with reserved seating tickets given by the Graduate School enter there, too. All other guest enter at the north entrance.
    • You will be required to show your Auburn University ID or government issued photo ID to enter here.
    • Signs inside the Scholarship Entrance will direct you up one floor to Room 2120.
    • Representatives of the Graduate School and Graduation Committee members will be in Room 2120 to give instruction for the ceremony and lead you to the Arena floor. Your major professor will be in Room 2120.
  • Arrive no later than 45 minutes before your ceremony. Ceremonies begin promptly at the published start time. No one will be seated on the floor after that.

  • A cart adjacent to the parking lot for persons with disabilities will be available to provide rides between the parking lot and the north entrance.
  • Bachelors, Masters and Specialists Degree Candidates:
    • Once on the arena floor, locate the seating area of your college/school and sit within that section without regard to alphabetical order.
      • Bachelor’s degree candidates should seat themselves in the section for their college/school.
      • Master’s and Specialist’s degree candidates should seat themselves in the Masters section (Graduate School).
  • Doctoral Degree Candidates:
    • Report to Room 2120 in the Auburn Arena to line up for the processional with your major professor.
Security, Safety Policies & Practices
  • All students will be screened upon entering the Arena.
  • Carry your academic gown or be prepared to remove or lift it above your shoulders.
  • Small purses are allowed but will be searched by security personnel; large bags and backpacks are not allowed.


Entry into the Auburn Arena
  • DOORS OPEN TWO HOURS BEFORE EACH CEREMONY - Arena doors are locked on the outside; security personnel will open doors two hours before each ceremony. (If you are attending the second ceremony of the day, please note that some guests and graduates from the first ceremony may still be clearing the Arena at the beginning of the two-hour window.)
  • ENTER USING NORTH ENTRY DOORS - Use the main Arena entrance (north end). Doors for guests and graduates will be separately indicated.

  • A cart adjacent to the parking lot for persons with disabilities will be available to provide rides between the parking lot and the north entrance.
  • Saving seats for multiple guests’ later arrival is discouraged. If access problems necessitate saving a few seats, please limit them to no more than four seats in one row. Please do not leave a single seat in the middle of a row. We expect that the Arena seating will be full.
Security, Safety Policies & Practices
  • BAGS WILL BE SEARCHED - All purses, bags, strollers, and ambulatory assistance devices (wheelchairs, crutches, canes, etc.) will be checked by security personnel prior to entry into the Arena.
  • EXPRESS ENTRY (NO BAGS) - Guests with no purses, bags, or ambulatory devices can use doors designated “EXPRESS ENTRY – NO BAGS” located adjacent to the north entry doors.
  • PROHIBITED ITEMS – The following is a list of prohibited items:
    • Weapons
    • Alcohol
    • Backpacks - No bags larger than 12x12x12
    • Artificial Noisemakers
    • Umbrellas
    • Wrapped gifts
    • Cameras with lenses over 4 inches in length & tripods
    • Coolers
    • Food & Beverage from outside Arena
    • Hover Boards
    • Stadium Seats with Arms
    • Subject to any other items deemed unsafe by law enforcement personnel at time of entry
  • SEVERE WEATHER – In the event of severe weather, staying in the seating area may be the best location for seeking shelter. If other actions are needed, you will be notified by event personnel.
  • SEE SOMETHING/SAY SOMETHING – If you have any problems or see something suspicious, please notify any of the police officers in or around the Arena or dial 911 immediately.

Cap & Gown

  • A cap and gown is required to participate in the graduation ceremony.
  • Caps and gowns are reserved by the Auburn University Bookstore only.

Deadline to Order Cap and Gown

  • Now - November 1
    $50 – Undergraduates, $75 – Masters, $85 - Doctoral
  • Payment is due when order is placed. No Refund.

Attire for the Ceremony

  • Men: Dress pants, preferably dark, and dark shoes (please, no jeans, athletic shoes or sandals)
  • Women: Dress, or top with skirt or dark pants (no jeans); the robe’s separate white collar is optional.
  • Undergraduates: The tassel on the mortar board is worn on the right; it will be switched to the left side near the end of the ceremony.
  • Graduates: The tassel on the mortar board is worn on the left side.

Cap and Gown Return

  • Return immediately after the graduation ceremony at the designated return area at the Auburn Arena.

Name Card
  • Every graduate will have his or her name announced as he or she walks across the stage.
  • A name card will be created for each graduating student to use as they walk across the stage.
  • The name card will be handed to the announcer as you walk across the stage.

Honor Cord
  • The university issues a gold honor cord to any undergraduate student who is potentially eligible for Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude or Summa Cum Laude.
  • Being issued an honor cord does not represent a final certification of graduation honors on the student’s diploma or transcript. Official honor certification is finalized after the commencement ceremonies once the degree audit is complete.

Auburn Arena Information

Where can a bus park?

  • All buses must park in the West Village Parking Lot located on the west side of campus.
  • Buses are allowed to drop off passengers at the bus turn-in on War Eagle Way prior to parking in the West Village Parking Lot.
  • Buses may not park in the Auburn Arena Parking Lot or the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Parking Lot.

Special Accommodations

For Graduating Students

  • Special accommodations for graduating students with special needs are available upon request.
  • To make requests, contact the Office of the Registrar at (334) 844-2544 (then select Option 5 for graduation area).
  • All requests for special accommodations should be made well in advance of the scheduled commencement ceremony.

For Individuals with Disabilities

  • Seating will be available in the Auburn Arena for guests with special needs.
  • These seating areas are located around the perimeter on the concourse level of the Arena.
  • Due to limited seating, only one person can accompany a guest who is to be located in this section.
  • The most convenient access to this section is through the Scholarship Entrance of the Arena. There will be elevator access to the concourse level.
  • Graduation is well attended. We encourage anyone with mobility or health issues to come early. Seating is available on a first-come, first serve basis.
  • If you use a wheelchair, cart or other specialized equipment, please bring it with you.
  • A sign language interpreter will be on stage for the ceremony. Closed-captioning is provided on the video board and floor monitors.
  • Assistive Listening Devices are available from the First Aid Station located on the main concourse area.
  • If you need a program in an alternate format or have a question about accommodations, contact the Office of the Registrar at (334) 844-2544 (then select Option 5 for graduation area).

Accessible Parking at the
Scholarship Entrance of the Arena

  • The parking lot directly leading to the Scholarship Entrance on the east side of the Auburn Arena is reserved for accessible parking on graduation day.
  • A mobility impaired hang-tag or license plate must be present to access this parking lot.
  • Entrances to this parking lot are located on Donahue Drive and Heisman Drive.
  • Please see the graduation parking map for reference.

Photo & Video Services


  • Photographic Services (334-844-4560) takes pictures of all graduates as they walk across the stage during the commencement ceremony.
  • Proofs can be viewed and purchased online within two weeks of the commencement ceremony.
  • A proof will also be mailed to graduates approximately three weeks after the commencement ceremony which is available for purchase.
  • Please plan to take your own personal pictures, either before or after the ceremony.

Cap & Gown Portraits

  • Graduation portraits can be scheduled each semester the week prior to the commencement ceremony at Photographic Services, 104 Foy Hall.
