Position in Theoretical Phylogenetics

(Tenure Track: Assistant Professor)

This hire would join the Evolutionary Genetics and Systematics Core in the Department of Biological Sciences (DBS).  Increasingly, comparative studies (functional morphology, ecology, and physiology) employ an evolutionary framework, which require well-supported, robust phylogenies. Novel phylogenetic comparative approaches are now increasingly applied to understanding a diverse array of ecological and evolutionary questions. Moreover, development of rapid genome sequencing, transcriptomics, and other phylogenomic techniques has required a re-invention of phylogenetic methodology, necessitating diverse computational and bioinformatic skills. We seek a Theoretical Phylogeneticist who can apply novel genomic and/or informatics and comparative tools to understanding evolutionary patterns and processes; individuals at the cutting-edge of methods and theories for phylogenetic reconstruction are most desirable. This position would potentially overlap with the Bioinformatics position (concurrently posted), with both envisioned as computational cornerstones of the EGS Core.
