Katherine Buchanan  

Dean's Medal: Biomedical Sciences

Katherine Buchanan will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in Spanish. Throughout her time at Auburn, she has maintained a 4.0 GPA and will graduate with an Honors Scholar distinction as a member of the Auburn University Honors College. She has received multiple scholarships and awards for her academic performance and is a member of multiple honor societies including Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. In addition to academics, Buchanan has been involved in several extracurricular activities with many being focused on community service. She serves as a project coordinator for IMPACT Community Service Organization, a Project Uplift mentor, a volunteer at a local nursing home and retirement community, and a Science Olympiad coach at a local elementary school.

In addition to these activities, she is also an active member of a social sorority for which she served on the Executive Recruitment Committee. For multiple semesters, Buchanan completed research in Auburn University’s Child Sleep, Health, and Development Lab. During the summer, she also held a position in a research lab in the Department of Neurology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Over her time at Auburn, Buchanan had the opportunity to study abroad in Cuba with the Honors College and in Spain through COSAM. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, watching Auburn sports, and spending time with her friends and family. Following her graduation from Auburn University, Buchanan will be attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and hopes to work in pediatrics.
