Job Naming Standards

Standard:
All batch jobs shall conform to a set of naming rules.

Procedures:
Batch job names will begin with two characters, those two characters being the first two of the relevant requestor's job code.

The two alpha characters shall be followed by a four digit number.

The first digit shall reference the system/subsystem.

The second digit shall reference the subsystem or application group.

The last two digits shall be used to uniquely identify jobs within a system/subsystem/application group.

The last two digits should roughly specify the order in which the jobs will run, where appropriate.

Originally sequence jobs in increments of five, beginning with five.

Last two digits should never be "00". This is reserved to indicate a system/subsystem/application group.

Jobs that are routinely run in a different number of ways will use a suffix of "Z" followed by a number or letter (e.g., AB1234Z1 or CD5678ZA).

Notes:
When testing, affix an "X" to the end of the job name (except "Z" versions, where the "Z" should be replaced by an "X") to avoid conflicts with production jobs.

When setting up a non-production job that will be scheduled by the production scheduling office, affix an "H" to the end of the jobname (except "Z" versions, where the "Z" should be replaced by an "H").

Example: BO1110 is the FRS Accounting Daily Process. The first two characters of the job name are "BO", as the requestor's jobcode for this job is BO613. The first digit is "1", which indicates FRS Financial Accounting. The second digit is also a "1". This indicates a daily process. The sequence number is "10", which should indicate that this is the second job in the daily process. It is, being preceeded daily by BO1105.
