Latin America
has been an important part of my life. I grew up in Brazil where I
still
have many friends and contacts.
For several years I served as the Director of the Auburn University
Institute
for Latin American Studies, and I have been able to travel in most
countries of the Western Hemisphere. In recent years, in
collaboration with my brothers, I
published
a book through the University of Alabama Press titled "The
Confederados."
The book describes the events and consequenses of the migration of
Americans
from the Deep South who immediately after the Civil War settled in
Brazil.
The migration had interesting consequences because some elements of the
North American culture (such as the English language) still persist
near
the city of Americana, SP. We have also translated the book into
portuguese, and it is available at UNIMEP
Press. In addition to research on Latin America, I have
developed computer applications in geography,
studied
migration, delved into historical geography, and published works on
geographic
education. Here's my vitae,
in case you are interested.
I have been involved with two very worthwhile organizations: Curamericas , and SIFAT. Both groups work toward eliminating health problems and hunger in less developed regions of Latin America.
Here are some of my favorites
things. Take a look.
Here are pages related to some of my courses: Geog-3810 , Geog-2800, and Geog 5970.
