Open each weekday, the non-denominational Auburn University Chapel, located on the corner of College Street and Thach Avenue, provides students and faculty members with a place for meditation and prayer. With a capacity of 90,the AU chapel may be reserved for weddings, formal ceremonies of fraternities, sororities, and other student organizations and also for memorial services. A Reuter-two manual pipe organ with four ranks is available upon reservation.
The Auburn University Chapel, located at 139 South College Street, stands as a landmark of more than a century of Auburn 's history. The Chapel, constructed in 1851, is the oldest building still on its original site and is still used by the University. The Chapel is also the oldest public structure the town of Auburn. In 1976 the Chapel was given an imaginative restoration and designated a bicentennial building in the National Register of Historic Buildings.
This chapel has had a colorful past. It was used as a house of worship for the Presbyterian and Episcopal communities. It has also served as a Civil War hospital, a civic center, the Y-Hut (YMCA and YWCA headquarters), and a USO. In 1887, when the main building burned at Alabama Polytechnic Institute, the college used the Chapel for classrooms. Auburn University acquired this property in the early 1900's. For forty years it served as the playhouse for the Department of Theater. It has now come full circle and again serves the Auburn University community.
The AU Chapel is available for reservation by calling 334-844-1320. A refundable deposit of $20.00 is required for use of the chapel key. If an event requires a rental fee, payment must be received prior to its official scheduling. Chartered student organizations may reserve the Chapel for events of 3-hours or less without charge. Requests will not be considered more than one year in advance of the date requested. Please call the Student Center Reservations office for more information. In the event a function must be canceled, notice must be given in writing 30 days prior to the event date in order to receive a refund. The AU Chapel is equipped with a Reuter-two manual pipe organ with four ranks, and the key to the organ requires a $10.00 deposit. The use of the organ and the services of an organist must be approved by our staff.
Located in James E. Foy Hall, this auditorium provides ample space for larger events. Foy Hall is located at the corner of Thach Avenue and Mell Street, behind Samford Hall. Auburn students, faculty, and staff can reserve Foy Hall Auditorium.
There are multiple outdoor spaces surrounding the Student Center that are available for reservation including the Green Space, Cater Lawn, Graves Amphitheater, the Beach Area, the Hay Fields, Haley Concourse, Roosevelt Concourse, Thach Concourse, the Au Bon Pain patio, the Quad entrance patio, and the Chick-Fil-A patio. Permits for Open Air Forums (link to Open Air Permit) are also available.
Reservations for the Green Space, Cater Lawn, Graves Amphitheater, Beach Area, Hay Fields, the Au Bon Pan Patio and the Chick-Fil-A Patio can be made by calling 334-844-1320. Events at these locations must also be submitted to the Campus Event Planning System for approval.
With 7,504 square feet of event space, the Student Center Ballroom is one of the most popular venues for larger scale vents. Windows line one entire wall of the space, providing stunning views of campus and natural light. The ballroom is equipped with one large wall screen, four smaller wall screens, sharp data projectors and microphones. The room can also be separated for smaller gatherings.
