Dan Surry, the Harrison College of Pharmacy's Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, joined the college Summer of 2014. Additionally, Surry serves as a faculty member in the Department of Health Outcomes Research and Policy.

Surry came to Auburn from the University of South Alabama where he was a professor of instructional design and development. A United States Army veteran, Surry's career has also included stops at the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Alabama, California State University-Fresno, the University of Georgia and the United States Air Force Academy.

As the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, Surry is a part of the HCOP leadership team, continuing the school's legacy as an innovator in curriculum and assessment. He assesses curricular outcomes and recommends improvements based on regularly scheduled peer-based course reviews; OSCE-based milestone examinations; student focus groups; student, faculty, and graduate questionnaires; and a continuous quality improvement program which has been cited as noteworthy by American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).

The position articulates the mission, vision, and values of the curriculum; stimulates interdepartmental collaborations to improve the academic and professional programs promotes educational innovations and research; seeks and supports external funding opportunities; and participates actively in continuous educational quality improvement for the professional program and continuing education activities. He is administratively responsible for teaching, learning and assessment, which is responsible for comprehensive assessment efforts, the continuing development of faculty as master instructors, and fostering the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Beyond his work in the classroom, Surry has co-edited two books: "Technology Integration in Higher Education: Social and Organizational Aspects" and "Technology as a Tool for Diversity Leadership: Implementation and Future Implications." He is the Associate Editor, and past Editor-in-Chief, of the journal TechTrends and has been North American Corresponding Editor of the British Journal of Educational Technology.

Surry is the author of numerous journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers on topics related to organizational change, technology and society and the implementation of innovations into learning organizations.

A 1984 graduate from the University of Alabama with a degree in mass communication, Surry served as a linguist and military intelligence operator in the U.S. Army from 1984-88. He then earned a master’s degree from the University of South Alabama in 1990 in instructional design before earning his doctor of education from the University of Georgia in 1993.

Surry and his wife, Melinda, an elementary school teacher, reside in Auburn and enjoy travel, sports, and spending time with their dogs.
