Scholarships, Grants, and Special Opportunities
A
- AAUW Career Development Grants
- Career Development Grants provide funding to women who hold a bachelor’s degree and are preparing to advance or change careers or reenter the workforce. Primary consideration is given to women of color and women pursuing their first advanced degree or credentials in nontraditional fields.
- AAUW International Fellowships International Fellowships
- Awarded for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate studies at accredited U.S. institutions are supported.
- AAG Diversity and Inclusion Award
- To make nominations for the Diversity and Inclusion Award, include the complete name and address of the nominee, a concise (500 words maximum) yet specific description of the accomplishments that warrant the nominee’s selection, a resume or CV for the candidate, and at least two supporting letters. The deadline for receipt of submissions is September 15.
- AGI Scholarships
- The Harriet Evelyn Wallace Scholarship is available for female students pursuing a Master's or Doctoral degree at an accredited institution of higher education in a recognized geoscience program. The scholarship is a merit-based award, which is $5,000 per year.

- For students from under-represented groups who plan to pursue careers in the atmospheric or related oceanic and hydrologic sciences
- Alabama Space Grant Consortium Fellowship Program
- A significant goal of the NSGCFP is to encourage interdisciplinary training and research, to train professionals for careers in aerospace science, technology and allied fields, and to encourage individuals from underrepresented groups to consider careers in aerospace fields. Space related fields include any academic discipline or field of study (including the physical, natural, and biological sciences; engineering; education; economics; business; sociology; behavioral sciences; computer science; communications; law; international affairs; and public administration) that is concerned with or likely to improve the understanding, assessment, development and utilization of space.

- Ford Foundation Fellowship
- The Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.
- Predoctoral, Dissertation, and Postdoctoral fellowships will be awarded in a national competition administered by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine on behalf of the Ford Foundation.

- GSA On to the Future program
- “Supports students from diverse communities to attend the Annual Meeting by offering partial travel funding, full meeting registration, one-year membership, mentorship, and special sessions with leadership while at the meeting”
- GSA Expanding Representation in Geosciences Scholarship
- “Undergraduate students from groups who are underrepresented in the geosciences are encouraged to apply or be nominated for a scholarship. Up to six awards include $1,500 scholarship, student membership, and full meeting registration for the 2021 Annual Meeting & Exposition.”

- NABG Scholarships
- For minority students enrolled full-time in geoscience programs

- Significant Opportunities in Atmospheric Research and Science (SOARS)
- Undergraduate-to-graduate bridge program designed to broaden participation of historically underrepresented communities in the atmospheric and related sciences.
- Southern Regional Education Board Doctoral Scholars Program
- The SREB funds minority students who plan on pursuing careers in academia and higher education, with a focus in mentoring. The fellowship provides up to five years of funding support plus professional development and travel support.
- STEPS’ list of Scholarships and Resources for Minority Students
- Society of Woman Geographers’ Pruitt National Fellowship Program
- Offers fellowships up to $12,000 to women doctoral candidates in the United States and Canada. These fellowships support dissertation research in geography and geographical aspects of related fields.
- Society of Woman Geographers’ Pruitt National Minority Fellowship
- Minority women who have been admitted to and plan to enroll or are enrolled in a Master’s program in geography or a related field are eligible to apply. Two or three awards up to $4,000 will be made.

- UCAR Next Generation Fellowship
- Provides fellowship and two-summer internship for students interested in Earth System Science, Diversity and Inclusion, or Public Policy
