Kristi W. Kelley, Pharm.D., BCPS, CDE serves as a preceptor for ambulatory care rotations for pharmacy students in addition to teaching in various courses throughout the schools’ curriculum.
Dr. Kelley’s practice is at the Continuity Clinic at Trinity Medical Center as part of Baptist Health System, Inc.’s Department of Medical Education and Research and Internal Medicine Residency Program in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Kelley is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing all pharmacy services related to patient care as well as precepting pharmacy students.
Dr. Kelley earned both her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (’99) and Doctor of Pharmacy (’00) degrees at Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy. She completed an ASHP Accredited Primary Care Residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2001. Dr. Kelley became a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist in 2002 and a Certified Diabetes Educator in 2004.
Before assuming her current position, Dr. Kelley had a clinical pharmacy practice with a group of private practice physicians in Birmingham and as part of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Physician’s Medical Center – Carraway.
In her research, Dr. Kelley has focused on treatment and education of patients with common primary care disease states. Dr. Kelley’s scholarship interests include metabolic syndrome, women’s health, and pharmacy education. All of these areas are ones that she has had opportunities to teach in the didactic as well as experiential setting over the last 10 years in clinical practice and academia.
Complementing the practice and research interests of Dr. Kelley is her involvement in professional associations. She is a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and is very active in the Alabama chapter serving on the board for the last 4 years. She has been active in the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy serving on a variety of committees.
