Inception

In 1997, the College of Sciences and Mathematics established the Summer Bridge Program. The Summer Bridge Program offers a unique contribution to the area of transitioning from high school to college. More than 500 students have participated in this program and nearly 100 are currently continuing students at Auburn University.

Summer Bridge Program Philosophy

 The Summer Bridge Program endeavors to equip entering minority students with academic and social support required to advance and excel in the rigorous COSAM curricula or pre-professional courses of study

Summer Bridge Program Benefits

Program participants are provided opportunities to:

  • Focus on academic enrichment, development and enhancement of study and time management skills, community and network building, and career awareness
  • Participate in enrichment courses in mathematics and chemistry
  • Interact with representatives from the Cater Center for Academic Career Excellence, Student Services, Freshman Year Experience, Harrison School of Pharmacy, and College of Veterinary Medicine
  • Network with COSAM faculty, staff, and students
  • Participate in the annual Summer Bridge Program Awards Luncheon with the Dean of COSAM presiding

 Summer Bridge Program Opportunities

 Summer Bridge Program student have access to development activities including:

  • opportunities within COSAM to:
    • Attend enrichment courses taught by mathematics and chemistry professors
    • Attend workshops taught by outstanding graduate students
    • Visit COSAM departments
    • Network with upper classmen in COSAM
    • Engage in professional development activities
  • opportunities to participate in community outreach activities including:
    • Community engagement experiments in Polymer Chemistry and Fruit Genetics at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lee County (Auburn and Opelika)
  • academic and other support:
    • Program provides room and board, instructional costs, and other program related expenses  
    • Mentoring is facilitated by the PASS Mentoring Program
