Broadband Adoption Training

GEDI partnered with the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs and the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind on a project funded by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Sustainable Broadband Adoption program. Titled “Connecting Alabama: Boosting Broadband to Bridge the Digital Divide,” the project was designed to educate and train Alabama residents and community leaders in the social and economic benefits of broadband technology. GEDI created the following 11 training modules:

  • Broadband 101 – The Internet, broadband applications, and technologies, and online safety and security.
  • eHome – Tools and applications for managing the home, family, finances, and social connections.
  • eCommunity – Using Broadband to strengthen face-to-face community interaction.
  • eCommerce – Using the Internet to expand customer base, access new markets, and sell products online.
  • eGlobal – Taking eCommerce to an international scale.
  • eGovernment – Using Broadband to make government more accessible and how to develop or improve a community website.
  • eHealth – Using Broadband to improve patient care and access online resources that support wellness.
  • eLearning – Find out about online education and training opportunities and programs and resources to support classroom education.
  • eWorkforce – Learn about online workforce development opportunities and resources – for workers and trainers.
  • ePublic Safety – Best practices for using Broadband to enhance public safety.
  • Website Basics: A Primer for Hispanic Small Businesses – Self-paced training for small businesses serving a Hispanic population (Spanish and English)
  • County Extension Coordinators (CECs) delivered training modules in each of Alabama’s 67 counties and facilitated Connected Community Forums to bring together local citizens and stakeholders for a community conversation about Broadband issues and options.
  • Trainings were developed for the deaf, blind, and severely disabled through partnership with the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind (AIDB) and its eight regional centers.
