Background:
After graduating from Auburn in 1980, Randy began his design career with Syntex Dental Products. He moved from dental equipment design to designing home exercise equipment for Diversified Products, and then to the design of outdoor lighting fixtures for Cooper Lighting. During this corporate experience Randy has received 17 U.S. patents.

 

Randy is also active in the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and on a national level, through the IDSA, he teaches students and professionals how to improve the impact of their portfolios.

 

Research and teaching interests include introducing the students to their first comprehensive re-design of an existing product using a systematic approach to user research, product development and product marketing. Randy also manages the Ireland Design Program, a ten-week international “studio abroad” program in the spring. The students that participate in the Ireland program visit and study at five different design schools during the program.
