Auburn statistician seeks to create new tools to extract information from privatized data with NSF-funded award

Among constant sophisticated cyberattacks, the topic of data privacy is more relevant than ever.

 

“As we store larger and larger amounts of data, we increase the risk of exposing them to attacks,” said Roberto Molinari, assistant professor in Auburn University’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

 

He is working to obtain accurate conclusions from data while still maintaining its privacy.

Auburn mathematics professor awarded prestigious Leverhulme Visiting Professor to teach at Oxford University

Henry “Hal” Schenck, professor and the Rosemary Kopel Brown Chair in Auburn's Department of Mathematics and Statistics, has been awarded a prestigious 2023 Leverhulme Visiting Professor by the Leverhulme Trust, a national grant-making organization in the United Kingdom, or UK, that advances research and education.

 

As part of the award, Schenck will travel to Oxford University to teach several mini-courses on various mathematics topics, including computational algebra and syzygies, toric varieties and computational algebra for topological data analysis.

Montgomery high school students battle for robot bragging rights in first Hyundai HIRE Robotics Tournament

On November 18, over 100 high school students from Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) competed in the first Hyundai Initiative for Robotics Excellence, or HIRE, high school robotics tournament held at LAMP High School. The competition was a culminating milestone made possible by a $78,800 grant from Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) and partnership between HMMA, MPS and Auburn University’s Southeastern Center of Robotics Education (SCORE) to establish robotics teams and education at all Montgomery public middle and high schools.
