Guanqun (Vivian) Cao, associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, has been elected a member of the International Statistical Institute.

 

“I am honored to be part of a society that promotes the importance of statistics worldwide,” said Cao.

COSAM receives high marks in 2021-22 Quality of Assessment Report

The Auburn University Office of Academic Insight recently released its 2021-22 Quality of Assessment Report that summarized the quality of all 29 undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs in COSAM.

 

In 2016, the overall quality of assessment score across the university was 2.4, which is between “Developing” and “Mature” on the Quality of Assessment Rubric. After five years, the overall quality of assessment scores improved to 3.33 in 2019-2020, which is between “Mature” and “Exemplary” on the rubric.

Learn your blood type on Nov. 18

Have you ever wondered what your blood type is or what blood types you are compatible with? Well, don’t wait. On Nov. 18, stop by the Sciences Center Laboratory, or SLC, building, room 310 and find out from noon to 3 p.m.

 

“Students, faculty and staff are welcomed to stop by the third floor of SCL and find out their blood type in just minutes,” said Brittni Sloan, director of Clinical Lab Sciences. “It is a great opportunity to help students get hands-on experience and an important health factor that everyone should know about themselves.”

Local middle school teams compete in annual Auburn Mathematical Puzzle Challenge

On November 5, 13 teams of 7th and 8th grade students worked collaboratively to solve mathematical puzzles at the 2022 Auburn Mathematical Puzzle Challenge, or AMP’D.

 

Held on Auburn’s campus and hosted by the College of Sciences and Mathematics’ STEM Outreach Office and the Department of Mathematics, student teams solved puzzles using practical applications of mathematics while developing leadership, teamwork and organizational skills.

 

This year, student teams comprised of six to eight students participated from Opelika Middle School, Russell County Middle School, East Coweta Middle School, Lee Middle School, Evans Middle School, Samford Middle School, Montgomery Catholic Preparatory Middle School, Madras Middle School and East Samford School.
