Physicist from Auburn University selected for top paper by the Journal of Materials Research

Congratulations to Ryan Comes from the Department of Physics for being the recipient of the 2021 Journal of Materials Research Early Career Scholar in Materials Science Prize.

Comes received this honor for his group's paper published in Jan. 2021 based on work in the FINO Lab.  Graduate students Miles Blanchet, Patrick Gemperline, Rajendra Paudel, and Suresh Thapa were co-first authors on the paper.

Auburn physics professor discusses new revolutionary telescope, recent space-related news

Space-related storylines have proliferated the news in recent weeks, from reports of space debris forcing astronauts at the International Space Station, or ISS, to take shelter or maneuver the station out of harm’s way, to satellite launches aimed at meteors. In addition, NASA will launch a revolutionary telescope on Dec. 18 that will give scientists expanded capabilities for novel research projects designed to study the formation of planets. Auburn University Associate Professor of Physics Dennis Bodewits discussed the recent news and what the future may hold for space research.

Bodewits is also featured on the homepage of the OANow, Auburn professor hopes to ‘settle a score’ between asteroids and comets using NASA’s new telescope.

Recapping the 44th SIAM Southeastern Atlantic Section Conference

The 44th SIAM Southeastern Atlantic Section (SEAS) Conference took place from September 18-19, 2021, at Auburn University with a hybrid modality. The conference, which was initially scheduled for March 2020, attracted more than 200 participants from the U.S. and five other countries. Roughly 70 people attended the meeting in person, and the remainder joined virtually on Zoom.

Ming Chen awarded Thieme Chemistry Journal Award and Emerging Investigator Award

Congratulations to Ming Chen, assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, for being selected for a 2021 Thieme Chemistry Journal Award and a 2021 Chemical Communications Emerging Investigators by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
