Auburn University and Tuskegee University have been awarded a joint NSF Research Training Group grant titled “Building a Robust Mathematical Foundation for AI and Integrated Data Science” (Awards #2446127 and #2446128).

This is a five-year, $2.1M award from the NSF’s Division of Mathematical Sciences. Auburn will receive $1.5M under the leadership of Dr. Yanzhao Cao (PI) and co-PIs Abebe, Mao, Billor, and Lin. Tuskegee will receive $600K under the leadership of Dr. Mohammed Qazi (PI) with co-PIs Ndoye, Wu, and Yardimci.

The RTG will train undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers at the interface of mathematics, AI, and data science. The program combines rigorous mathematical foundations with applications to generative AI, topological data analysis, and PDE-based machine learning in areas such as wireless communications, medical imaging, and cybersecurity.

This award is a major win for Auburn, Tuskegee, and the state of Alabama. It strengthens our talent pipeline and positions the institutions as leaders in mathematically grounded AI and data science.

Congratulations to everyone who made this happen.
