DMS is this year's recipient of AU's Departmental Award for Excellence in Education

Department of Mathematics and Statistics is this year's recipient of AU's Departmental Award for Excellence in Education. This will be recognized at the Faculty Awards Ceremony on November 17th. The award comes with a no-strings-attached $30k over 3 years. The award recognizes the Department's innovative multifaceted & multiyear GTA training program, our commitment to K-12 math teacher preparation, and the Department's growing knowledge of and participation in education research.

"With a strategic effort to improve teaching and learning, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics is recognized for its innovative efforts to enhance and expand GTA professional development, K-12 Math Teacher Recruitment and Preparation and integration of evidence-based teaching practices in courses. By sharing best practices through the scholarship of teaching and learning, the department's efforts to create a culture of scholarly teaching have resulted in increased interest and participation in faculty development programs. Moreover, the department continues to foster a culture of assessment and support for ongoing improvement." (COSAM Today, 18 Oct. 2022)

Thanks go to Dr. Melinda Lanius who led the team (Ash Abebe, Dmitry Glotov, Brittni Hall, Heather Hamilton, & Lora Merchant) that submitted the award package.
