Science Pub

Time: Sep 28, 2017 (06:30 PM)
Location: Red Clay Brewing Company

Details:

The College of Sciences and Mathematics’ Office of Outreach will host a Science Pub at Red Clay Brewing Company in Opelika. Science Pub is a bi-monthly, family friendly outreach event that provides an opportunity for the community to discuss scientific topics with an Auburn University scientist. The Science Pub will take place on Thursday, Sept. 28, from 6:30–7:30 p.m., and will feature Matt Grilliot, assistant professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at Troy University in Montgomery. Grilliot’s talk is titled, “An ‘Itchy” Situation: Bats, White Noises, and a Terrible Fungus.” Grilliot will discuss the impact of a fungus, Pseudogymnoascus destructans, including cave closings across many states and the deaths of millions of bats. Grilliot is participating in the Auburn University Science Pub as part of a partnership with the “Professors in Pubs” program sponsored by the Auburn University at Montgomery College of Arts and Sciences. No scientific background is required to participate, and no question is too silly to ask. There is no cost to attend the Science Pub, but please note, proceeds from the purchase of each Drymarchon Berliner Weisse, a drink featured at Red Clay, will benefit the Auburn University Museum of Natural History’s Alabama Natural Heritage Program and their efforts to conserve rare species in Alabama, such as the Eastern indigo snake. Sodas and pizza will also be available for purchase at the Science Pub.
