Title: Some tree structures arising in the study of biological populations

Abstract: Tree structures of various kinds play an important and quite fashionable role in many areas of modern stochastic processes. My plans are to review some such structures with surprising properties arising naturally in the contexts of genealogy and extinction of biological populations. I also hope to state my "Palm tree conjecture," named after the brilliant Swedish engineer and applied mathematician Conny Palm, who died tragically so young.
